THE PURPOSE OF LIFE - REVEALED

Updated: Jul 14, 2020

I'm sure many people in the world share my belief that the purpose of this life is to learn and grow, to improve and prepare to eventually meet our Maker.

To go a step further, and this might be specific to my Christian religion, but I also believe that means eventually becoming perfect. And as a child will grow and learn to become an adult like his parents, even carrying some specific traits and and learning certain habits as them, we have the potential to learn and become like our Heavenly parents, whether in this life or the next.

Does this feel overwhelming?

It doesn't have to. All we need to do is work on BECOMING BETTER than we were yesterday. More than likely it will be one step forward and two steps back at times, but with God's grace, and a humble and willing heart, and the following qualities, you and I will get there.

QUALITIES FOR BECOMING BETTER

Having a growth mindset instead of a fixed mindset.

This infographic (created by Nigel Holmes and used with his permission) which lays out the work of Carol S. Dweck Ph.D., gives a perfect explanation of the difference between these two ways of thinking. Choosing to believe we have the ability to grow and change and progress is really the first step on the journey to become better.

Living in gratitude

...will open the windows of heaven. Think about it. Say your neighbor brings you a fresh baked loaf of bread. If you receive it with a frown and toss it on the table and act rushed, do you think she will bring you a loaf again in the future? Probably not.

But it you receive it with pure appreciation, a huge smile even giving her a hug, she will be motivated to be received that way and when the desire arises again to share bread or something else, she'll know who to come to.

Is this not the same with God?

And he who receiveth all things with thankfulness shall be made glorious; and the things of this earth shall be added unto him, even an hundred fold, yea, more. D&C 84:19

God will bless us with more when we receive His blessings graciously. Truly a powerful way to live.

Having charity- a genuine care for others.

“Charity is love. Christians believe that God's love and generosity towards humanity moves and inspires us to love and be generous in response. Jesus taught that to love God and to love neighbor are the greatest commandments. Charity is not an optional extra, but an essential component of faith.” -Linda Jones

Not only is life just better and more enjoyable when we have a heart full of love turned towards others, but it helps us in our faith journey.

I love this affirmation:

Today I remember to love everything and everyone I come in contact with.

Belief/Faith

I have learned from experience and extensive study that belief is the starting point for achieving goals. We must believe that we have what it takes or will be able to develop the skills we’ll need to achieve our goal. We must have a vision of that end goal in our mind and be creating it in our mind and spirit before it will happen in the physical world.

But belief in self is not enough. Belief and faith in a Higher Power is imperative to our becoming. I want to be sensitive to all people and their various beliefs. I think most people believe in a Higher Power and different religious groups call that different names and may have different views of it. I am Christian so I will share what I know to be truth: I believe that Higher Power is the Godhead. The Father, The Son, and the Holy Ghost. Having faith in them is powerful.

He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. John 7:38 (KJV)

What is that living water?

Joseph Wirthlin said, “By living the gospel of Jesus Christ, we develop within ourselves a living spring that will quench eternally our thirst for happiness, peace, and everlasting life. The Lord explains clearly in the Doctrine and Covenants that only faithful obedience can tap the well of living water that refreshes and enlivens our souls: “But unto him that keepeth my commandments I will give the mysteries of my kingdom, and the same shall be in him a well of living water, springing up unto everlasting life.”

I want a well of living water!

What an incredible promise that we can have the mysteries of God’s kingdom! Truths will be revealed to the righteous. We can have a constant flow of happiness, and peace and live forever with God with this gift. That’s quite the reward... and all God asks in return is belief in Him and keeping His commandments. Totally worth it in my mind.

Take action-

Faith is an action word. Don’t tell me what you believe, show me what you do!

Move forward step by step, day by day, week by week, month by month, year by year, equipped with these qualities: have a growth mindset instead of a fixed mindset, living in gratitude, having charity- a genuine care for others, and a belief/faith in yourself and your Maker, to BECOME BETTER and fulfill your purpose in this life.
